Marco Calavita is an Associate Professor of Communication Studies. He received his Ph.D. in Culture and Communication from New York University and his B.A. in Theater Arts/Film from the University of California, Santa Cruz. The COMS courses he has taught at SSU include Principles of Mass Communication, Methods of Media Criticism, Mass Communication Theory & Research, Screenwriting, America at the Movies, “Reality” TV and Film, Screening Violence, and Advanced Media Criticism. His book APPREHENDING POLITICS: NEWS MEDIA AND INDIVIDUAL POLITICAL DEVELOPMENT was published by SUNY Press in 2005, and his research and media criticism has been published in the JOURNAL OF FILM AND VIDEO, the HISTORICAL JOURNAL OF FILM, RADIO, AND TELEVISION, the COMMUNICATION REVIEW, POPULAR COMMUNICATION, CINEASTE, and the SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE, among other publications. He is also a screenwriter.
