The Sonoma State American Language Institute (SSALI) sent four faculty members to Japan to teach an intensive 10-day English course for Nihon University. The instructors, Miriam Hutchins, Berta Hodges, Peter Vincent, and JuHwan Kim spent the time with 36 students from Nihon at a seminar house in Tateshina, located in the Japanese Alps. Ms. Hutchins, Ms. Hodges, and Mr. Vincent taught Everyday English, Intercultural Communication, and Communication in Business Situations during the day. Mr. Kim lead the students in language games and activities in the evening. SSALI has been hosting students from Nihon University for the past two years during its summer program.
Some of the instructors stayed on to visit potential sources for SSALI recruitment. Ms. Hutchins will visit Anan National Technological College and Miyazaki International College in southern Japan. Ms. Hutchins, who has mentored students from Miyazaki International College for the past twelve years will have the opportunity to attend the Miyazaki graduation and meet up with some of her former students. Ms. Hodges will be traveling north of Tokyo to visit Nagano University, Tsukuba University, and Niigata University of International and Information Studies. In addition, Ms. Hodges will meet with one of SSALI's recruiting partners in Tokyo, Steven Hamade of Apprez, Inc. She will also meet several former SSALI students. Mr. Kim will travel to Seoul before returning to SSALI to make contact with four of SSALI's recruiting agencies there.
This marks the first time in over ten years that SSALI faculty have traveled out of the USA for recruiting purposes. The opportunity has been made possible due to the invitation from Nihon University, which covers the bulk of travel and housing expenses. It is our sincere hope that these personal contacts will lead to stronger ties between SSALI and schools in Japan and Korea.

Extended Education is interested in furthering the mission of making classes as available and accessible as possible to students and the community. Toward that end, we are building up our course offerings in online and hybrid (partly online, partly face to face) classes, as well as offering support to faculty for converting existing face to face classes to an online or hybrid format.

• Delivering Powerpoint lectures as video/audio
• Insuring adherence to Extended Education online checklist (see page 58 in the Faculty

• Converting Powerpoint slides to VoiceThread, a powerful new tool for interactive
• Designing visual aspects of Moodle course in the Extended Education format
• Creating a video of the instructor introducing him/herself inside Moodle
• Creating and placing YouTube videos in Moodle
• Assisting with initial Moodle set up
• Providing other services as needed
