Things 2 Know @ FAO
2017-18 FAFSA and CA Dream Application Available 10/01/2016
The 2017-18 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the 2017-18 California Dream Application will be available on 10/01/2016.
Students who are US Citizens or eligible non-citizens use the FAFSA to apply for financial aid at FAFSA.gov. Students who are not eligible to file the FAFSA use the CA Dream Application at dream.csac.ca.gov. Do not complete both applications!
Instead of estimating income for 2016, the application requires you to report your actual income for 2015. This change makes the application process easier and allows most students and parents to use IRS Data Retrieval at the time the FAFSA is filed.
The CSU priority application date remains 03/02/2017, but the SSU "Early Applicant" deadline is 11/30/2016.
Updated Middle Class Scholarship (MCS) Eligibility Review and Disbursement Timeline for Fall 2016
Now that the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC) is ready to transfer MCS funds to schools, the California State University (CSU) computing staff is working on updating MySSU so that we can confirm eligibility and disburse funds to eligible students.
Given the timeline we received for this functionality to be available in MySSU, we expect to disburse the funds for Fall semester on or after November 14, 2016.
If there is a further delay, we will notify MCS candidates by email to their SSU email account.
Avoid FAFSA Scams
Filing the FAFSA is FREE. There are companies that may solicit payment from you to file the FAFSA on your behalf, but in most cases this is a waste of your money. If you are asked to give a credit card number or make any kind of payment to complete or file the FAFSA, beware. More information on filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid can be found in our How to Apply section of our website.
