Disability Services for Students (DSS)
Position
Under the general supervision of the Associate Director of Disability Services for Students, the Support Services Assistant will perform a variety of administrative duties in support of the Disability Services for Students (DSS) office. The Support Services Assistant will assist in providing direct student support services to enrolled students with disabilities, and will assist in the coordination and implementation of accommodation services to students authorized by the Disability Services for Students Disability Management Advisors. Provides primary administrative support for DSS; provides electronic and clerical support as necessary to fulfill program mandates; and provides general assistance to the Director and Associate Director in overall coordination of DSS activities. Responds to inquiries from students, faculty, staff and community members related to disability-related services; resolves questions and concerns as appropriate and refers complex or unresolved issues to the supervisor as needed. Assists the Associate Director with the coordination of clerical operations of the office and assures clerical, administrative and technical support for the Director, Associate Director and other staff; maintains appointments for staff; and coordinates meetings for DSS as appropriate. Assists in the coordination of test-taking appointments for DSS students; includes assisting in the oversight of exam log-in from faculty members and returning exams to academic departments; scheduling Student Assistants to serve as Proctors for testing sessions; reserving classrooms in advance for overflow testing; and assisting in monitoring testing sessions to help maintain integrity of the testing environment. Works with Facilities, to coordinate the placement of alternative furniture into classrooms. Maintains database for students registered with Disability Services for Students; maintains current record of inventory; works directly with student assistants, and semester contract employees; makes recommendations for hires, trains and provides work direction to student workers; maintains all forms/records related to the service delivery; Assists in the development, implementation, and coordination of special projects or activities such as Disability Awareness Week and other outreach activities; research information specific to DSS policies and procedures, and articulate complex procedural information to students, parents, faculty other campus offices and the general public; tracks expenditures, maintains monthly spreadsheets, tracks accounts and prepares office requisitions, disbursement vouchers, interpreter contracts and other office forms; and monitors program's historical information and tracks and communicates to professional staff incoming policies from the Chancellor's Office regarding disability issues, as well as the campus' changing environment.
Qualifications
Requires a high school diploma and a minimum of two years related, progressive clerical experience in a busy office setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience to be proficient performing work assignments. Requires the ability to handle a wide range of interpersonal contacts, including interactions sensitive in nature and where confidentiality is necessary; excellent interpersonal skills; ability to establish and maintain positive and professional relationships with students, parents, faculty and staff; thorough knowledge of office methods procedures, and practices; general working knowledge of applicable university infrastructure, policies, and procedures; a thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation; moderate computer skills for word-processing and spreadsheets; and excellent oral and written communication skills. Requires the ability to draft and compose correspondence and standard reports; independently handle multiple work unit priorities and projects; perform standard arithmetic functions of a transactional nature, including tracking and comparing data, learn, interpret independently, and apply a variety of complex policies and procedures; apply independent judgment, discretion, and initiative to address problems and develop practical, thorough, and creative solutions; quickly learn university infrastructure, policies, procedures and resources; prioritize tasks appropriately in a busy environment while maintaining excellent attention to detail; adhere to strict confidentiality standards; flexible and organized; adapt to change in the work environment; accept feedback; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships; work actively to resolve conflicts; work in a stressful environment where constructive feedback from others is encouraged; provide excellent customer service to students, staff, faculty and other visitors; and work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Requires ability to use a computer keyboard for up to 6 hours a day; and comply with the University's safety policies and rules. Must be able to maintain regular and acceptable attendance, punctuality, and reliability.

Salary and Benefits
The salary range is $2,505 to $3,758 a month. Starting salary placement will not exceed $2,530 per month This is a full time, non-exempt position, which will lead toward permanent status following the successful completion of a probationary period.
