Position
Under the supervision of the Director of the Children's School, and in coordination with the Master Teacher, the Associate Teacher is responsible for supporting a sound early childhood educational environment in accordance with the policies and philosophy of the Children's School. The Associate Teacher is expected to maintain a professional attitude and to communicate with fellow staff with a positive problem solving approach. The Associate Teacher works under the direction of the Master Teacher, and assumes responsibility for the classroom when the Master Teacher is gone. Develops an integrated curriculum in collaboration with the Master Teacher; provides experiences that reflect and respect the diverse cultural, racial, and familial structures of the children and parents in the program; participates in conjunction with the Master Teacher in the construction of a learning environment, both indoors and outdoors, that promotes the optimal growth of each child's developmental needs: intellectual and imaginal, social and emotional, kinesthetic and physical. In conjunction with the Master Teacher, supervises children at all times with the assistance of student employees, modeling responsibility for the health and safety of all children. Assists in integrating children with special needs; assists in complying with the California Department of Education's Desired Results and Environmental Rating Scale; and participates in special events that are a part of the program such as parent potlucks, fundraising events, or other events on campus. In conjunction with the Master Teacher, trains student employees, and attends weekly student staff development meetings; and models high quality early childhood teaching practices for interns, participant/observers, observers and volunteers. Models responsibility for all environments, including animal habitats and grounds, health and safety standards, compliance with Title 5 and Title 22 regulations.
Qualifications
12 Units ECE/CD including core courses: Child/Human Growth and Development, Child/Family/Community or Child and Family Relations, and Programs/Curriculum. 3 Infant/Toddler units preferred for Associate Teacher in the infant and toddler classrooms. Must have a minimum of three semester units or four quarter units in the areas of Child/Human Development, Child/Family/Community, and Curriculum. Must possess or qualify for a Child Development Associate Teacher Permit issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. One year experience in an early childhood education classroom within the past three years preferred. Must possess effective writing and communication skills, including the ability to problem solve and make group decisions. Must be flexible, and able to work with different classrooms and with different age groups. Requires current certifications in Pediatric CPR, and First Aid. Blood borne Pathogens preferred. Requires the ability to regularly required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop and kneel; and visually scan environment to insure child safety indoors and out. Requires the ability to regularly sit and use hands and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Must successfully pass background check and fingerprinting and health screening.

Salary and Benefits
The salary range is $1,473 to $2,678 a month. Starting salary placement will not exceed $2,205 per month. This is a full time, non-exempt, temporary position. Reappointment to this position is dependent upon the individual's performance as well as administrative and budgetary considerations. Benefits include vacation, sick, and holiday time earned in relation to hours worked.
