SSU FNPP

To qualify for the MSN Family Nurse Practitioner Program, you must meet the following minimum criteria:

1.

SSU admission criteria as a Classified Graduate student

2.

R.N., licensed in California

3.

Two years' experience as an R.N. preferred

4.

BSN degree*

5.

Overall Grade Point Average of 3.0 in last 60 units of college-level coursework

6.

Completion within the past 7 years of Physiology**

7.

Completion of Statistics

8.

Completion of community health nursing course

   

 

In addition, students will be required to complete an upper-division health assessment course in the summer prior to beginning their clinical courses (N509 Advanced Assessment & Clinical Decision Making, or its equivalent)

CSU Graduate Applications are accepted from October 1 to March 31. Apply online at CSU Mentor.

FNP Supplemental Applications are accepted from November 1 to March 31 in SSU's Department of Nursing, 1801 E. Cotati Avenue, Rohnert Park, CA 94928. Download the application from http://www.sonoma.edu/nursing/applicforms/applicdefault.htm

A complete supplemental application consists of:

1.

Application form, including essay and paragraph

2.

Three Recommendations (submit with application in sealed envelopes)

3.

Copy of RN license

4.

$25.00 non-refundable application fee, made payable to SSU


Submit items 1-4 as a packet to the Nursing Department. A packet missing any of these items will
not be considered.

*SSU offers a Pathways Program for RNs who have a Bachelor's degree in an area other than nursing which makes them eligible to apply into our Master's programs. For more information, go to the Pathways information page or contact the Nursing Department at (707) 664-2465 or 2466.

**SSU's Nursing Department offers a National League for Nursing Anatomy and Physiology Exam which can be taken to challenge the physiology requirement. Submit the Challenge Exam Registration Confirmation Form to register for the exam. Download the Study Guide to help you study for the exam.
