The SSU MSN and Post MSN Certificate FNP Program is pleased to announce the award of a $653,111 Advanced Educa- tion Nursing Grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) for three years from July 1, 2007 to June 30, 2010.

The grant will enhance the Sonoma State University (SSU) Rural Distance Masters of Science and Post Master's Certificate Family Nurse Practitioner (MS/PMC FNP) Program and make it more accessible to rural and frontier nurses, add new clinical linkages and strengthen the existing ones, and provide requested content in clinic leadership and manage- ment.

In the last several years, SSU has significantly expanded the program by disseminating it to sister campuses in the California State University (CSU) system through distance education technologies.

The service area of the home site, SSU, borders on rural, frontier, and medically under- served areas and services the 101 corridor from Marin to Del Norte Counties.

The service areas of the two current distant sites, Stanislaus State in the Central Valley and Chico State in North Central California, encompass large rural, frontier, and medically underserved areas.

The program enables registered nurses in Northern and Central California to access graduate- level primary care NP education in their own locales within the format of SSU's highly respected program. Recruitment will focus on those who have the qualities and hold the ideal of meeting the health care needs of underserved populations.

Admissions: The program will begin accepting applications for a full and part-time cohort for the SSU site and part-time cohorts at the distance sites in December 2007. Please see the application on www.sonoma.edu/nursing and click on Applications.
