Reviewing the classics: The Catcher in the Rye
Lauren Abruzzo, Staff Writer
It was banned in America as well as other countries, it’s a favorite among serial killers and yet you can always find the average person with an underlined copy of it in their personal library. So why do people love “The Catcher in the Rye?”
Simply because they can find a way to relate to it.
Written by J.D. Salinger, who has become a man of mystery himself, and making its debut in 1951, “The Catcher in the Rye” has since stirred up controversy whereever it may be read.
Upsetting people around the world and causing uproar for its language, crude sexual undertones, talking openly about sex, homosexuals, and rebellious nature, parents had it banned while their children refused to let it go.

The hurricane is over
Laurel Carman, A & E Editor
Considering that I am an editor for a newspaper, this might seem slightly odd but it’s the truth. I hate reading a daily paper to get my news. I think the process is anachronistic and unnecessary when juxtaposed to faster resources for information. I get a majority of my news from television and the Internet.
Despite my distaste for the slower source of news, I’m tempted to go back to reading the newspaper. In the last month, the only news covered is Hurricane Katrina and Rita. There is a reason why the news is called as such; it is supposed to be new.
I grew up watching the Today show. Every morning since before I can remember, I got ready for school by watching Katie, Matt, Al and Anne. Now, I find myself rolling my eyes at their lack of reporting. Whenever I turn on the TV, they have drummed up some hasbeen celebrity to hammer a nail into a house that is being built for one family in New Orleans or Baton Rouge.

Better late than never
Lauren Jack, Staff Writer
The release of “Late Registration” was a highly anticipated date because many music lovers were anxious to see if Kanye West could top his debut release of “College Dropout.” During the week that West’s album was set to be released, I heard more about his thoughts about hurricane Katrina, rather than the release of his CD. I was driving in my car oneday and listening to the radio, when the DJ on 106.1 KMEL was discussing that West had told reporters that Bush “didn’t care about Black people.” West made this comment because he felt that President Bush wasn’t doing enough to help the survivor's of hurricane Katrina. If he released his CD and all he did was talk about money, sex, and cars; his credibility would be ruined.

More bullet shells fall to the ground in writer/director Andrew Niccol’s movie than there are grains of sand on the beaches of California. Then again, this is a very high energy movie so nothing of that nature is out of character.
