SSU Scholarship Program
The University Scholarship Program is designed to provide encouragement and public recognition to students who have demonstrated academic excellence. The program is supported by generous contributions from individuals, organizations, corporations and foundations. Scholarships range from $250 to $3,000 per year. In the last few years the number of scholarships has increased dramatically. There are now over 200 separate funds which provide approximately 400 distinct scholarship awards.
The primary criterion for awards from the University Scholarship Program is outstanding scholarship. Restrictions apply to some awards, e.g., residence, major, etc. Your accurate completion of the scholarship application form will ensure you are considered for every scholarship for which you qualify. Various academic departments and athletic programs provide scholarships and talent awards which are not part of the University Scholarship Program. You should contact the appropriate office to find out about these awards and how to apply for them. Students with financial need should also apply to the Financial Aid Office.
Who is Eligible?
Any incoming freshman, undergraduate or graduate student, including international and out-of-state students, planning to attend Sonoma State University full-time in a degree or credential program, whether entering or continuing, is eligible if the scholarship requirements as stated below are met.
Scholarship Application Requirements
Application to, acceptance by, or enrollment as a matriculated student in Sonoma State University is required. Outstanding academic achievement including a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 point scale is also required. This GPA is calculated on your unweighted, cumulative GPA as determined by Admissions and Records
, including the Fall semester preceding the application period. Applicants must submit a complete application
packet (consisting of an application, narrative, and two letters of recommendation) by the deadline date in order to be considered.
When and How to Apply
The application period begins in September of each year. The completed application package must be postmarked on or before January 15 of the application year. Students must re-apply every year. Awards for the succeeding school year will be announced by May. For students on or near the campus, a scholarship application packet may be obtained from the Scholarship Office, Salazar Hall 1072. Most students will find it convenient to complete the application online
