The Sonoma State University Priority 5 TRIO Training grant cycle is from October 1, 2010 until September 30, 2012. All TRIO staff are eligible to undertake this training. Being accept into a training at a particular location is on a first-come, first-serve basis.
The training focuses on recruiting and serving TRIO participants, especially those who are deemed "high risk" or "hard to reach" as defined in the Higher Education Opportunity Act. Specifically, the training provides proven strategies for recruiting and serving hard to reach populations–including students who are limited English proficient, students from groups that are traditionally underrepresented in postsecondary education, students who are individuals with disabilities, students who are homeless children and youths, students who are foster care youth, or other disconnected students.
Sonoma Satate University has assembled an outstanding group of trainers, speakers, field experts and faculty.
Four trainings are planned for each of the two years in the grant cycle. A training application must be submitted in order to receive U.S. Dept. of Education approval. Confirmation will be delivered to the email address and recipient included in the applicaiton. Several staff members from a TRIO program are welcome and encouraged to attend, but each must submit a training application.
