Where has the amount raised so far come from?
Donations and pledges to the Green Music Center project have been received from individuals, corporations and other not-for-profit agencies. For a representative listing of the various types of donors see http://musiccenter.sonoma.edu/donors.htm.

What is Sonoma State University's role in this project?
Sonoma State University and the California State University System have overall authority and responsibility for the project. This project has been fully presented and approved by the Trustees of the CSU. Please refer to http://www.calstate.edu/BOT/Agendas/May00/CPBG.pdf for the campus presentation to the Board of Trustees and to http://www.calstate.edu/BOT/Resolutions/May2000.pdf for Board of Trustees Resolution RCPBG 05-10-00 approving the project.

Two of Sonoma State University Auxiliary Corporations are playing major roles in the Green Music Center Project. These auxiliaries are public service, not-for-profit corporations that have been designated by the IRS as organizations exempt from federal income tax under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The Sonoma State University Academic Foundation, Inc. (SSUAF) serves as the legal entity that is receiving and investing donations given to benefit SSU activities. The Sonoma State Enterprises, Inc. (SSE) serves the SSU community by providing a campus bookstore, food service venues, and other related commercial type operations.

To facilitate the design and construction of the Green Music Center, SSU has designated SSE as the contractor of record. SSUAF is the recipient of all donations made to GMC. The SSUAF reimburses the SSE as expenditures are made.

How much money has SSU contributed?
The Green Music Center Construction project is financed by fundraising efforts. Please see the list above.

How much will SSU spend on this project?
The Green Music Center construction project is financed by fundraising efforts. See the list above.

How much did SSU spend on acquiring the land on which the north parking lot will sit?
The University has acquired land to expand student parking capacity mandated by projected enrollment growth. While this project is technically independent of the Green Music Center, the University has chosen to locate the parking lot adjacent to the Green Music Center so it can serve dual purposes. In addition to providing more parking for our students, it also will provide parking for visitors to the Green Music Center and other campus facilities. Land costs associated with the parking expansion mandated by student enrollment growth approximate $3,451,565.

What operating costs are being anticipated?
A specific annual operating budget for the Green Music Center has not yet been formalized since the nature of the specific instructional and performance program is still being developed. However, the University does anticipate annual expenses in the following areas:

¥ Facilities Management including maintenance, custodial, and landscape services
¥ Utilities
¥ Direct Instruction and Academic Support
¥ Programming
¥ Marketing and Fundraising
¥ Box Office Support and Audience Services
¥ Administrative Support

How will these be covered?
The University is actively exploring potential fund sources for annual operating costs. The following strategies are being analyzed:

Historically, the California State University has provided campuses with resources to support facilities management and utility costs associated with new University buildings. The University is hopeful that the Green Music Center will be able to utilize this fund source for facilities and utility costs.

As part of the University's projected enrollment growth, new resources for direct instruction and academic support are anticipated from the CSU budget. It is likely that a portion of these dollars will be allocated to the School of Arts and Humanities and its Center for Performing Arts which will operate the academic component of the Green Music Center.

Ticket revenue for events held at the Green Music Center, combined with corporate sponsorships are primary revenue sources for programming expenses.

Various fees built into each ticket price combined with annual revenue received from rental of the facility to outside organizations, annual revenue from the Santa Rosa Symphony, annual fundraising efforts, and an operating endowment will assist the University with costs associated marketing, fundraising, administrative support and audience services. In addition, the University anticipates synergies with existing University administrative departments can be fully developed in this regard.

Will bond monies be used?
No bond resources are anticipated for the construction of the Green Music Center (see list above).
