What's the Buzz: on High Tech / Renovated Classrooms ---------------------------------------- QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS ABOUT THIS E-MAIL SHOULD BE DIRECTED TO CHRISTOPHER DINNO, christopher.dinno@sonoma.edu ---------------------------------------- The new high tech classrooms that were converted /
renovated this year are Stevenson 2049, 3030, 3036,3072,
3076 and 3082. Each year, six classrooms will be renovated,
some with only furniture and paint, some with new
technologies. That decision is forthcoming and will
announced as available. Based upon several meetings with the Classroom Committee, the classrooms were configured in the following way: 1. Display System: A ceiling mounted LCD video / data projector was installed that displays all system images onto a wall mounted project screen. 2. Display Inputs: All equipment for the display system are located in a multimedia tech cabinet that is located in the corner of each classroom adjacent to the instructional desk. a. One resident PC is located in the cabinet and feeds the system. b. The system also displays images from a VCR / DVD unit as part of this system and is directly wired into the system. These units are also located in the cabinet. c. An auxiliary connection plate has been located in the front of the room, adjacent to the instruction desk that allows for a guest laptop with audio. d. The same connection plate also accommodates the integration of the SmartBoard. Projects onto screen. The projection is stored on the instructor's station, where students can download and print if they have a wireless or direct connection. The instructor can also print the screen and use as a handout, or create a disk where it could be put on a web page for students and others to access. 3. Control System: A SmartPanel remote control system forms the heart of the A/V presentation system. It provides simple, automatic operation of the presentation environment. A central presentation control panel is mounted in the multimedia tech cabinet. The control system controls the power on/off functions for the projector, input selection as well as volume control. 4. Audio System: The audio system consists of the audio from the laptop computer, the PC resident in the multimedia tech cabinet and the VCR / DVD player listed above. These feed a stereo audio-follow-video preamplifier located in the SmartPanel. The output of the SmartPanel Control System will feed a self-amplified speaker system. It includes two speakers mounted on the instructional wall on either side of the screen and a sub woofer that is located in the ceiling.
