WHAT'S THE BUZZ: ON
THE DIVISIONS OF THE UNIVERSITY

What areas of responsibility fall under each
Division of the University?
Academic Affairs Division
The Academic Affairs Division is responsible for all academic areas including
academic departments and Schools, Faculty Affairs, Analytical Studies,
the University Library, institutes and centers, and research grants and
contracts. Liaison is provided to the Academic Senate. Responsibilities
of the Division also include Enrollment and Student Academic Services
(ESAS): Admissions and Records, Advising, Career and EOP Center, Disability
Student Services, International Services, Learning Skills Services, Orientation,
Residential Life Programs, Scholarships, Testing Services, and the Tutorial
Center.
Oversight: Bernie Goldstein, Provost (second in command to the President)
& Vice President for Academic Affairs. Also serves as Chief Academic
Officer.
Oversight for ESAS: Katharyn Crabbe, Vice Provost

Administration & Finance Division
The Administration & Finance Division is responsible for all financial
management, information technology activities, campus design and construction,
university-wide facilities management services, the on-campus student
housing program, the human resource function for staff, including payroll,
environmental health and safety, risk management activities, the University
Police Department, the Customer Service Department, financial aid, campus
special events and the activities of the Sonoma State Enterprises.
Oversight: Larry Furukawa-Schlereth, Vice President for Administration
& Finance. Also serves as Chief Financial Officer for SSU and its
four auxiliary organizations.

Executive Division
Development
The Office of Development is responsible for coordinating private fund
raising for the University and its many constituents. Fund raising efforts
are carried out through comprehensive campaigns, an annual fund, a planned
giving program and a memorial giving program. Contributions are sought
for unrestricted purposes, scholarships, student talent awards, faculty
development, departmental funds and capital campaigns.
Oversight: Jim Meyer, Vice President for Development

University Affairs
The University Affairs Office oversees public, media and government
relations and coordinates university policies and communications. Campus
publications as well as brochures and programs for many campus events
and fund raising programs are produced in University Affairs. The department
manages the SSU web site, coordinates distribution of e-mail messages
and announcements to the campus community, and organizes various official
university events (such as the 40th Anniversary celebrations this past
year).

Student Affairs Division
The Student Affairs Division provides oversight and direction for the
Student Health Center, Counseling and Psychological Services, the Children's
School, the Office of Campus Life, and PreCollege Programs, as well as
the Intercollegiate Athletics Program. The Associated Students Inc. and
the Student Union Corporation and their various programs are part of the
Student Affairs Division. The student discipline process takes place through
Student Affairs.
