Overview of Chapter 6:
Reviewing the Research Literature Chapter 6 describes
literature reviews that are conducted within a
research context. A particularly important point in
this chapter is the distinction between the kind of
library work that is characteristic of many nursing
courses and the critical and objective appraisal of
relevant research that is characteristic of a
research review. An early section of this
chapter shows you how to locate research reports on
a specific topic. The focus is on acquainting you
with available bibliographic resources, with an
emphasis on electronic database searches.
This chapter also discusses
the preparation of written literature reviews. You
will be better prepared to appraise the quality of
a literature review section in research reports by
understanding what it takes to write a good
research review. Study
