A useful
model: Overview of Chapter 16:
Using Research Findings in Nursing
Practice The purpose of this final
chapter is to emphasize the need for increased
utilization of findings from nursing research
investigations, i.e., to apply the findings of
research in your own clinical practice. Although
research utilization is often beyond the control of
individual clinical nurses, the entire nursing
community has a role to play in making sure that
nursing practice is research-based, aka,
"evidence-based." This chapter describes both
the potential for utilizing research findings and
the current status of utilization--descriptions
that illuminate the current gap between knowledge
production and knowledge utilization. The chapter
discusses some of the barriers to research
utilization and suggests some strategies for
overcoming those barriers. The concluding section
of the chapter discusses models for undertaking
both individual and organizational utilization
projects. Study
