A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Rutgers University, New Brunswick, New Jersey and a Berkeley, Ph.D. William Babula has taught Creative Writing, Drama, and Shakespeare at the University of Miami (Florida) and at the College of the Bahamas. He is a member of the Dramatists Guild and The Mystery Writers of America. He is now at Sonoma State University (since 1981) as Dean of Arts and Humanities. He is the author of four produced plays and of six others that received staged readings. He has won the following awards: Gualala (California) Arts Playwriting Competition, 1983; Jacksonville (Florida) University Playwriting Contest, 1987; National Playwrights Showcase Award, 1988, James Ellis Memorial Award, Theatre Americana, 1990. He is the author of a detective series set in San Francisco that features P.I. Jeremiah St. John and his two partners, one a six-foot seven Seminole Indian, the other a beautiful ex-cop and Playboy model. The series includes: ACCORDING TO ST. JOHN, 1989 ST. JOHN AND THE SEVEN VEILS,1990 ST. JOHN'S BESTIARY, 1994 He plays tennis and has been an avid reader of mystery fiction since he was twelve and he read all the Perry Mason books in print.
