FOR COMMUNITY PARTNERS

The Organizational Needs Assessment Form is used by the Center for Community Engagement, the JUMP Program, and SSU internship programs to determine how to best work with community agencies seeking involvement from SSU. It should also help you to understand the different roles that an intern, a volunteer, a service-learning student can play in your organization. For more information on service-learning and community based participatory research, we recommend that you review the service-learning information and research information on this web page listed under resources for faculty members.

The Community Service Writing Program

Does your organization have writing projects—pamphlets, articles, reports, website text, or other informational material about your mission —that it never seems to get to? The Community Service Writing Program at Sonoma State University may be able to help. As part of this service-learning program, students in English composition courses are assigned community writing projects. Our aim is to give students real-world writing experience, while promoting the work of Sonoma County organizations. Your writing project can be one-time (a newspaper article) or ongoing (a quarterly newsletter), but you must be able to set a mutual deadline for the final product with the course instructor. These courses are taught every fall and spring semesters, so there is opportunity for ongoing partnership. For more information, contact the CCE at (707) 664-3202.
