THE GENERAL EDUCATION PROGRAM

Obtaining a baccalaureate degree from Sonoma State University requires the student to complete both a general education program and a major course of study focused on a particular discipline. Through participation in general education courses, the student acquires a variety of basic skills and is exposed to modes of disciplinary inquiry. These courses provide the necessary context for the more specific study in the major and for the selection of appropriate electives which in combination make up the 120 - 132 units required to complete the degree.
