BAGLEY-KEENE OPEN MEETING ACT - This is the open meeting law that applies to state agencies including the CSU. The Act is described in Government Code Section 11120 et seq. and at: http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/calaw.html. It pertains to governing boards and does not apply to faculty meetings.

BENEFITS PROGRAMS - Programs for employees and/or their dependents, spouses and partners, that provide education or tuition payment, health, accident, disability and life insurances. Many of these programs have eligibility criteria and specific timelines for enrollment. The CSU currently offers eligible faculty the following: dental and health plans, a vision care plan, a life insurance policy, an accidental death or dismemberment policy, a long-term disability plan, a retirement plan in addition to social security deductions, a fee waiver/tuition program, industrial and non-industrial disability coverage. These programs are in addition to other benefits, such as sick time, sabbatical leaves, Difference In Pay leaves, medical leaves, family and bereavement leaves, and catastrophic leave donation.

BEREAVEMENT LEAVE - The provision of short-term leave when there is a death of an immediate family member.

BOMB SCARE - A notice, usually by telephone or in writing of a bomb. Bomb scare or bomb threat information should be given directly to the Police dispatcher to prevent delay in evacuation and search.

BROWN ACT - The Ralph M. Brown Act, Government Code Section 54950 et seq., governs the meetings of district boards and local agencies. It does not apply to the California State University. The Bagley-Keene Open Meetings Act applies to the governing boards of state agencies including the California State University. See Also: Bagley-Keene Open Meetings Act. BUDGET, UNIVERSITY - Several funding sources including the State General Fund allocation, revenues (fees and tuition), and reimbursements are included in the university budget. The university receives other funds including allocations such as Special Revenue Funds (Lottery Education Fund) and revenues earned by Enterprise Funds (Parking Revenue Funds and Continuing Education Revenue Fund); and the revenues generated by the university auxiliary organizations.

BUDGET BOOK - The Budget Book, available in the Library, details university expenditures, including salaries.

BULLETIN BOARDS - Designated places used for posters, notices and other announcements. Faculty members maintain the material placed on personal bulletin boards located outside their offices. Restricted bulletin boards are assigned for use by employee organizations, departments and schools and are designated by a sign. General bulletin boards are for the use of students, faculty, campus organizations, and collective bargaining representatives.

BUSINESS CARDS - Standard format cards used by employees that designates their employer, and typically includes telephone, fax, e-mail, and mailing address information. Upon request, the university provides faculty members with business cards bearing the seal of the university.
