SECTION 10
GLOSSARY AND TERMS
T
TENURE - The right to continued employment of a faculty member at a campus
until such employment is terminated by the individual through resignation
or retirement, or is terminated by the university pursuant to the Collective
Bargaining Agreement or law. In the CSU, tenure is granted at a specific
campus and to a specific department and does not entitle a faculty member
to an appointment or reassignment at another CSU campus or in another
department on campus.
TERMINAL YEAR - The final year of employment of a faculty member who
has received notice of denial of tenure. Currently the CBA provides that
terminal year appointments are limited to probationary faculty who have
served a minimum of three years of probation.
TITLE 5 - Refers to Title 5 of the California Code of Regulations, formerly
known as the California Administrative Code. Title 5, Division 5 and comprises
the administrative rules and regulations of the Board of Trustees of The
California State University. Title 5 should not be confused with the Education
Code that contains statutory or legislative provisions.
TITLE 5 SECTION 42701 - The basic principle upon which all faculty consultation
including personnel recommendations are made.
TITLE IX - Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 requires educational
institutions follow the principles and policies of gender equity.
TRUSTEES, CSU - The State Legislature established the Board of Trustees
of The California State Colleges to "succeed to the powers, duties
and functions with respect to the management, administration and control
of the state colleges." The 25-member Board of Trustees meets six
times per year. Board meetings are arranged to allow for public comment
and to promote communication among the trustees and campus presidents,
executive committee members of the Statewide Academic Senate, representatives
of the California State Student Association, and officers of the Statewide
Alumni Council.
