W
WEAPONS ON CAMPUS - A firearm, device, instrument, or item deemed to
be a firearm, weapon, or replica of a firearm or weapon. The Penal Code
prohibits on-campus possession of a weapon. Anyone found to be in possession
of a weapon can be charged with a felony.
WESTERN ASSOCIATION OF SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES (WASC) - One of six regional
associations that accredit public and private schools, colleges, and universities
in the United States. The accrediting activities of WASC are conducted
by the three commissions.
WITNESS - A faculty member who is subpoenaed to testify in legal proceedings
as a witness but not as a party or as an expert witness in a court case.
WORKER'S COMPENSATION INSURANCE - A benefit to faculty who have injuries
or illnesses arising out of and during the course of employment at the
university. The coverage includes temporary and permanent disability benefits
as well as vocational rehabilitation, if appropriate. An injured employee
has several options dependent upon the length of time incapacitated, the
amount of sick leave accumulated, and other factors. See also: Accident

WORKING PERSONNEL ACTION FILE - The portion of the Personnel Action File
used during the time of periodic evaluation or performance review of a
faculty unit employee. At the conclusion of the performance review process
and the Reappointment Tenure and Promotion (RTP) process, the performance
review document and the WPAF are integrated into the Personnel Action
File and maintained by the Faculty Affairs Office.
