CALIFORNIA PRE-DOCTORAL PROGRAM
"The California State University Pre-Doctoral Program Fellowship that I was awarded in 1997 has been an incredible asset for getting into graduate school. This award gave me the freedom to explore graduate school options, but the boost to my self-confidence was almost as significant as the boost to my finances. I set my sights higher, worked harder, and achieved more than I'd ever thought possible."
Anna Sears, SSU
Graduate 1998,
BS Biology, summa cum laude
The California Pre-Doctoral Program is designed to increase the pool of potential faculty by supporting the doctoral aspirations of CSU students who have experienced economic and educational disadvantages.
Pre-Doctoral Scholars are awarded fellowships for an academic year that provide opportunities to:
- participate in a summer internship program at a doctoral-granting campus
- visit universities to investigate possibilities for doctoral study
- attain membership in professional organizations and attend conferences
- acquire journal subscriptions
- cover costs of graduate school application and test fees
Each spring announcements and application packets are circulated. Final selections
are made by a committee of faculty from the California State University and
the University of California. For more information and specific dates for application
to the Pre-Doctoral Program at SSU, contact the Graduate Studies Office by phone (664-2237) by email, david.hartranft@sonoma.edu
