Academic Affairs Strategic Planning
2003-2005

Five Year Enrollment Trends
Fall 2003 Faculty

Background Information:

The Academic Affairs Division, in partnership with the Academic Senate, initiated a process of strategic planning during the 2003-04 academic year. This process is designed to develop a general strategy for the division that will provide both guidance in identifying priorities for division-wide initiatives and a context for resource allocation decisions within the schools.

The first stage of this planning process was completed during the Fall 2003 semester. It included two division-wide community meetings that provided an opportunity to air concerns, to review the process that would be followed, and to obtain broad input into an articulation of values, mission, and vision for Academic Affairs. Over several subsequent meetings, a large Strategic Planning Committee of faculty, staff, and administrators from the division developed draft mission and vision statements that were released to the community for review and comment and posted on this Web site.

During the spring 2004 semester the Committee undertook the tasks of specification of strategic areas, and general strategies and initiatives under each area. The initiatives developed are broad in scope and will require implementation plans that include identification of measurable objectives, required resources, timelines, and responsible parties. Community input is being collected from the full membership of the Academic Senate and other members of the community on the draft of the plan developed so far, and will be considered by the Committee for incorporation in a revision of the first draft by the end of the Fall 2004 semester. The plan’s current version is already providing guidance to various units within the Academic Affairs Division as they formulate their goals and objectives for the current academic year.

This important Academic Affairs initiative is proceeding very well. We are grateful for the commitment and contributions of the members of the Strategic Planning Committee and for the interest and feedback of all other members of the AA community.
