Welcome
In the summer of 2008, the Nursing Programs at Napa Valley College, College of Marin, Solano Community College, Santa Rosa Junior College, Mendocino College and Sonoma State University formed an education collaborative and received funding from the California Community College Chancellor’s Office to develop a seamless ADN to BSN/ADN to MSN curriculum pathway. The purpose of this collaborative endeavor is to create an educational continuum model for ADN students to enroll in BSN and MSN courses at Sonoma State University simultaneously while obtaining the Associate Degree in Nursing at their home community colleges. This new pathway complements the already existing options at SSU for Registered Nurses with ADN and BSN degrees which include the RN-BSN, MSN Pathways, and MSN programs. It is the intent of this project to assist students to progress in their nursing education to the BSN and MSN without barriers or duplication.
Recognizing that many ADN students are prepared and intend to continue their nursing education as they begin their ADN programs, this project adds two new categories of students eligible for admission to SSU Nursing. The first of these two categories is:
- Current ADN students with a BA/BS in a discipline other than nursing will meet BSN equivalency requirements for full admission to the MSN program by completing the proscribed Upper Division Nursing coursework at SSU while enrolled in their ADN program. Upon graduation from the ADN program and RN licensure, the MSN will be achievable within 4-7 semesters of enrollment depending on whether the student enrolls full-time or part-time and which specialty track the student selects.
All SSU courses for both programs heavily utilize online teaching strategies typically with on-campus meetings usually not more than three times in any one semester. Completion of either the BSN or MSN programs also qualifies the graduate for certification as a Public Health Nurse by the state of California. All of the MSN options at SSU are available through this program and include the specialty tracks of Family Nurse Practitioner or Nursing Leadership and Management (concentrations in Education, Administration, or Clinical Nurse Leader) .
