Sonoma Student Union Corporation (SSUC)

Student Union

The Union is the community center for the university, for all the members of the university community--students, faculty, administration, alumni, and guests. It is not just a building; it is also an organization and a program.

As the "community/family room" of the university, the Student Union provides some of the services, conveniences, and amenities the members of the university community need in their daily life on the campus and for getting to know and understand one another through informal association outside the classroom.

The Union is part of the education program of the University.

Its first and foremost role is to serve as a focal point for student life outside the classroom. The union strives to enhance the student's university experience by offering a program of social, cultural, recreational, and co-curricular activities designed to contribute to the student's educational and personal development.

Through it's board, various committees, and staff, the Union provides experience which encourages self-directed activity, give maximum opportunity for self-realization and facilitate growth in individual social competency and group effectiveness. Its goal is the development of persons as well as intellects.  As part of the campus community, the Union supports the mission statements of the Student Affairs Division and of the University.

In order to serve and nurture university life, the union continually assesses the needs of the university's growing and changing student body, and seeks to initiate programs and services to respond to those needs.

The union serves as a unifying force in the life of the university thereby developing campus wide collegiality and camaraderie which helps sustain and promote university community life.

Campus Recreation

As a program of the Sonoma Student Union Corporation, Campus Recreation promotes holistic development of the university community through programs and services that support the overall well-being of each individual.  Participants are encouraged to explore their limits, expand new horizons, and pursue healthy, active lifestyle choices.  The variety of services offered by Campus Recreation ensures opportunities for the university community to bridge academic learning with extracurricular activities.

To further support a learning foundation, Campus Recreation is philosophically committed to a student development model that utilizes programs and services that are "run for the students by the students."  Finally, through the design and operation of our facility, Campus Recreation demonstrates a profound commitment to a sustainable society in hopes that we can help pioneer a vision for conservation and energy efficiency.
