Sites of Special Interest

  • For those interested in Mexico and the rebellion in Chiapas, two new sites contains an almost overwhelming amount of information. Ya Basta!, is devoted to the Zapatista National Liberaton Army (EZLN) and contains a wide variety of news, documents and photographs. Chiapas 95 contains similar material along with a complete archive of all the communications issued by Subcomandante Marcos. Both sites contain links to other electronic sources of information on modern Mexico.
  • A unique site where the WWW becomes a research instrument: Andrew Apter's site facilitates study of the relationship between Yoruba talking drums and ritual choreographies. Read an article about Apter and his site as an example of the use of new internet technologies in research, or go to Andrew Apter's site on Yoruba research directly.
  • Archaeologists and especially CRM types should be sure to check out the Society for American Archaeology (SAA) Bulletin. There are special sections on, among others, Student Affairs, The Emerging Crisis in Cultural Resources Management, and Job Opportunities.
  • Mesoamericanists: can view an ancient pyramid at Teotihuacan, Mexico on the Feathered Serpent Pyramid Pages provided by the Archaeological Research Institute of Arizona State University
  • Historic Archaeologists and Ethnohistorians can see a collection of 19th and 20th century aboriginal (and European and Canadian) artifacts donated to the Manitoba Museum by the Hudson's Bay Company in the Hudson's Bay Company Digital Collection
  • An Evaluation of Chaco Anasazi Roadways is an HTML version of a paper presented at the recent Society for American Archaeology Meetings. It attempts to make use of Geographic Information system technology to demonstrate that Chaco Anasazi roads do not follow routes consistent with economic theories of their function, but rather seem to conform with models focusing on religious and integrative road functions.
  • Chetro Ketl Great Kiva is a richly graphical tour through one of the great religious tructures excavated at Chaco Canyon,m which was one of the major centers of Anasazi civilization. The site is highlighted (for those with an Apple Quicktime VR helper application), by a 3D tour through the kiva.
