Sonoma State University - First Day

We are happy to announce the creation of a new tradition at Sonoma State University on August 20, 2007 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm."First Day" was created to welcome all new students (freshman and transfer students) to the academic life at Sonoma State University. It is an opportunity for the students to receive an official welcome from University faculty, staff and students. During that time the students will engage in many activities to get to know others in their class and will also complete the CIRP Freshman Survey if they are not a transfer student. From there they will walk over to the Lakes for Opening Convocation and lunch. We want to create a traditional welcome for our students that will mirror the graduation in Spring, thus creating bookends of their experience at SSU.

Attendance is mandatory. Therefore, each faculty member will be taking attendance and follow up will happen if students are not present.

The entire campus community is encouraged to attend. Any faculty who would like to be a part of Convocation should meet at the Stevenson loading dock at 11:30 am in Regalia. Questions should be refered to Dr. Elaine Leeder, Dean of the School of Social Sciences at Elaine.leeder@sonoma.edu.

Following convocation lunch will be provided to all faculty and students who participate in "First Day." Please note that the dining hall will be closed for lunch that day. For those students with a meal plan, the dining hall will provide a light breakfast from 8:00-9:00 am.

The following is the agenda for "First Day" and room assignments for all new SSU students.

For those students enrolled in UNIV 102: Freshman Seminar your section will meet in the following rooms:

• All Hutchins students enrolled in LIBS 101 will meet in Carson 68. The exception is Hutchins students who are also enrolled in the UNIV 102: Hutchins FIG Freshman Seminar. Those students will meet with their FIG class. See the above chart for room location.

• All students enrolled in UNIV 150: First Year Experience will meet in Warren Auditorium in Ives Hall..

• All transfer students will meet in Darwin Hall 103..

• Any Freshman not enrolled in Hutchins Liberal Studies 101, UNIV 102, OR UNIV 150 will meet in the following rooms according to your last name:.
