Tomas Vu

Tomas Vu received a B.F.A. from the University of Texas at El Paso and an M.F.A. from Yale University. His primary media are painting, printmaking, and installation art. Vu's work deals with a range of themes and issues, including the use of the highly toxic chemicals napalm and Agent Orange by the U.S. military during the Vietnam War, as well as cultural identity and, more recently, the events of September 11, 2011. His work has been exhibited at P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center in New York; the Sunshine Museum in Songzhuang, China; the Hack Museum in Ludwigshafen, Germany; and at the Museum Haus Kasuya in Yokuska, Japan.

Vu will be the subject of a solo exhibition at the SSU Art Gallery in February 2012. He is currently the director of printmaking and artistic director of the LeRoy Neiman Center for Print Studies at Columbia University School of the Arts.

All lectures are free to the public and held at Sonoma State University in the Art Department. This semesters lectures will be held on Mondays (unless otherwise noted), Room 102 from Noon - 1:00pm.

The Visiting Artists Lecture Series provides our students with valuable insights and exposure to art professionals and their work.
