Alvin Ailey Legacy Dance Theater Residency
February 24-26

Ailey II Artistic Director Sylvia Waters offers two free public lectures at SSU in late February exploring the history of the legacy of Alvin Ailey and the modern dance company that has become known as a national treasure.
Part of a celebration of the African-American dance heritage and the modern dance tradition, the lectures are held at noon on Monday, Feb. 25 in Weill Hall, Green Music Center and 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 26 in PE1 on the Rohnert Park campus.
Tickets are free but reservations are required for the Weill Hall event through gmc.sonoma.edu and through www.wejoinin.com/sheets/ktccu for the Feb. 26 lecture.
Waters, former principal dancer with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and founding Artistic Director of Ailey II, is teaching excerpts from iconic Alvin Ailey repertory to local dance students as part of the Alvin Ailey Legacy College Residency program at SSU.
In addition to Ms. Waters’ lectures, Ana Marie Forsythe, a leading expert on the Horton Dance Technique, will teach Horton classes open to SSU students and invited dance students from Santa Rosa Junior College and the Santa Rosa High School ArtQuest dance program.
Happening during Black History Month, the residency brings the direct experience of Ailey, one of America's foremost dance artists whose company is devoted to promoting the uniqueness of the African American cultural experience and the preservation and enrichment of American modern dance.



The Vagina Monologues
March 7-9 in the Cooperage 7pm

The Vagina Monologues cast consists of a group of Sonoma State University women and men performing monologues that all relate to the vagina somehow. While some of the monologues are humorous, others will bring you to tears with their raw words and deep penetrating messages. Topics of these monologues include sex, love, rape, mutilation, masturbation, birth, orgasm and anatomy. This play uses the vagina as a theme that represents female empowerment in society. Tickets will be available in the Student Union and cost $5 for students, $8 faculty and staff and $10 general admission. All proceeds will benefit anti violence non profits.
