Alternative Breaks

Do Good

Alternative Breaks is a program for Sonoma State University student volunteers that coordinates and organizes week-long service trips during SSU's breaks.

JUMP sponsored two AMAZING Alternative Spring Break experiences in Spring 2007!
Read about them here:

New Orleans, Louisiana
This group spent their week with Habitat for Humanity New Orleans and worked in St. Bernard Parish, one of the areas hit hardest by Hurricane Katrina and the levee break in New Orleans. The students were involved in two projects: remodeling a school to become Camp Hope II and working on the first two Habitat homes in the Parish. Camp Hope II will become the new home for all of the Habitat for Humanity volunteers in August and to prepare for those volunteers the group removed tile throughout the school. The group constructed the foundation, floor and framing for two houses for two families currently living in FEMA trailers. A wall-raising ceremony was held for the first two homes built in the Parish.
