Positions and Responsibilities:

 Full-time Temporary Fish and Wildlife Scientific Aid

Assist marine biologists in field and laboratory research on Pacific herring. Field work will be conducted aboard a 19-foot research vessel in Tomales Bay. Activities include sampling herring schools with gillnets and sampling the commercial herring catch. Other work will involve surveying intertidal and subtidal spawns to develop herring spawning population estimates for Tomales Bay. Laboratory work at the Bodega Bay field office involves herring spawn, eelgrass density, and herring population sample processing along with the associated computer data entry. Minimum Qualifications:

Possession of a valid California Driver's License

and Either I

Education: Equivalent to completion of two years of college with a minimum of ten units in biological or chemical sciences,

Or II

Experience: One year of experience in surveying, studying or evaluating fish or wildlife populations, data analysis, or working in a chemistry laboratory. Knowledge of marine fish species identification, species anatomy, and the use of taxonomic keys is desirable. Also, applicant should be familiar with computer spreadsheet and data analysis programs.
