Minor Programs
Students wishing to pursue a minor in Chicano and Latino Studies must complete 20 units of coursework. The department offers students three minor options:
CALS Minor, Interdisciplinary Track
- CALS 458 Chicano and Latino Studies Research and Methodology OR CALS 350 Latino Cultural Studies
In addition, students will, in consultation with their designated CALS advisor, choose four (4) of the following courses:
- CALS 405 The Chicano/Latino Family
- CALS 426 Chicano/Latino Sociolinguistics
- CALS 432 Latinos in a Global Context
- CALS 442 Race, Class and Gender Among Latinos
- CALS 445 Chicano/Latino History
- CALS 474 Major Authors in Chicano/Latino Literature
- CALS 480 Latin American Migration to the United States
CALS Minor, Social Science Track
- CALS 339 Latinos in the U.S. Labor Market
- CALS 405 The Chicano/Latino Family
- CALS 350 Latino Cultural Studies OR CALS 458 Chicano and Latino Studies Research and Methodology
- CALS 445 Chicano/Latino History
- CALS 456 Sociology of Education/Latinos and Education OR CALS 480 Latin American Migration to the United States
- CALS 395 Community Involvement Program
CALS Minor, Spanish Track
- CALS 225 Spanish for Bilinguals OR SPAN 202 Intermediate Spanish
- CALS 350 Latino Cultural Studies OR CALS 458 Chicano and Latino Studies Research and Methodology
One additional advanced-level Spanish language course from the following list:
- SPAN 301 Advanced Composition and Conversation
- SPAN 305 Introduction to Literature
- SPAN 307 Cultures of Latin America
Any two (2) courses from the list below:
