An introduction to folk and traditional dances of Mexico; this is a performance
course requiring active student involvement. Basic steps, basic movement and
three to five ballet folcl—rico dances will be taught, leading to a public
performance. Dances include Las Amarillas de Guerrero, El
Novillo Despuntado de Sinaloa, El Cascabel and Huapangos de Veracruz, and Aires
Yucatecos de Yucat‡n. May be repeated once for credit
Learning Materials:
Applicable handouts will be given throughout the semester. Students must wear dance shoes.
Course Requirements:
Attendance: 2 pts each
class day (32 possible)
Quizzes: 40 points (10 points each)
Given at the end of each dance
Based on material learned for each dance
Each quiz will consist of 10 questions; multiple choice, true or false, fill in the blank, or short answer
No make ups
Midterm: 50 points
Demonstrate knowledge of dance, steps, rhythm, timing and style as it pertains to each of the dances learned during the first half of the semester.

Final Exam: 50 points
Demonstrate knowledge of dance, steps, rhythm, timing and style as it pertains to each of the dances learned during the second half of the semester.
No make ups
If you miss 6 classes you will not be able to receive credit for this class
Grading Scale:
104 - 172points = Credit
0 - 103points = No Credit
