ASI Officer Position Descriptions
Elected Student Positions
 
 

ASI President

The ASI President shall be the chief executive officer of ASI and shall, subject to the control of the ASI Senate, have general supervision, direction and control of ASI. The President shall have the general power and duties of management usually vested in the office of president of a corporation, together with such other powers and duties as may be prescribed by the ASI Senate and the bylaws, including:

1. Representing the members and the ASI itself to all persons and organizations within and outside the University.

2. Executing all action items approved by the ASI Senate unless otherwise stated or directed.

3. Performing other duties as assigned by the ASI Senate.

4. Advocating the student perspective on issues that affect the quality of student life, including but not limited to the quality of education, student rights, student life, and campus issues.

5. Serving as a voting member of the ASI Senate.

6. Serving as the official voice/vote to the California State Student Association (CSSA).

7. Appointing all appointed executive officers, appointed officers, and directors subject to approval by the ASI Senate.

8. Serving as liaison to the Sonoma State University President.

9. Supervising and delegating the day-to-day management duties of the corporation to the ASI Executive Director.

10. Appointing students member to, and dismissing student members from, University Committees, subject to approval by the ASI Senate.

11. Serving as the Chair of the ASI Personnel Committee with the following duties and responsibilities:
a. Serving as the administrative officer of the ASI Personnel Committee;
b. Calling and conducting meetings of the ASI Personnel Committee.

12. Serving as the Chair of the ASI Interim Executive Board with the following duties and responsibilities:
a. Serving as the administrative officer of the ASI Interim Executive Board;
b. Calling and conducting meetings of the ASI Interim Executive Board.

13. Serving as a Member of the following committees either in person or by designee:
a. ASI Finance Committee;
b. Fee Advisory Committee;
c. Campus Re-Engineering Committee;
d. Sonoma State Enterprises Board of Directors;
e. President's Budget Advisory Committee;
f. Vice-President's Budget Advisory Council.

14. Providing oversight to the Governmental Affairs Director.

ASI Executive Vice-President

(i) Serving as ASI President in the temporary absence of the ASI President;

(ii) Appointing members to, and dismissing members from, University Committees, with the exception of those delegated by these Bylaws to the President, with the approval of the Senate;

(iii)Serving as the administrative officer for ASI delegates to University Committees;

(iv) Acting as Corporate Secretary, and maintaining all official corporate books and records;

(v) Keeping the students informed of the actions of the Association through publicity, public relations and publications of the ASI;

(vi) Serving as a voting member of the ASI Senate;

(vii)Serving as a Member of the ASI Children's School Governing Board;

(viii)Serving as a Member of the ASI Interim Executive Board;

(ix) Serving as a Member of the ASI Personnel Committee;

(x) Serving as a Member of the ASI Lobby Corps Board(Executive Officer);

(xi) Serving as the Chair of the ASI External Affairs Committee with the following duties and responsibilities:

1. Serving as the administrative officer of the ASI External Affairs Committee;
2. Calling and conducting meetings of the ASI External Affairs Committee.

(xii)Serving as the representative to the Sonoma State University Alumni and Alumni Organizations.

ASI Vice-President of Finance

The ASI Vice-President of Finance (also known as the Chief Financial Officer) shall have the following duties and responsibilities:

1. Keeping and maintaining accurate accounts of the properties and business transactions of the Corporation, including liabilities, receipts, disbursements, gains, losses, capital, retained earnings and other matters customarily included in financial statements.

2. Acting as liaison to the Chief Financial Officer of the University, and providing the University upon requests with financial records concerning the Corporation.

3. Providing the ASI President and ASI Senate, upon request, with an accurate accounting of all corporate financial transactions and the financial condition of the Corporation.

4. Reporting recommendations of the ASI Finance Committee to the ASI Senate, and making budget proposals and recommendations to the ASI Senate.

5. Performing such other duties and functions as may be prescribed by the ASI President and ASI Senate.

6. Serving as the Chair of the ASI Finance Committee with the following duties and responsibilities:

a. Serving as the administrative officer of the ASI Finance Committee;
b. Calling and conducting meetings of the ASI Finance Committee.

7. Serving as a member of the ASI Personnel Committee.

8. Serving as a Member of the ASI Interim Executive Board.

9. Serving as a member of the following committees either in person or by designee:

a. President's Budget Advisory Committee;
b. Campus Re-Engineering Committee;
c. Fee Advisory Committee.

ASI School Senators

Each School has a different Senator(s). They generally have the following duties that relate to the School from which they were elected:

1. Each School Senator shall serve/represent the best interests of the constituents from their respective school of study from which they were elected.

2. Each School Senator shall serve as a voting member of the ASI Senate.

3. Each School Senator shall attend meetings of the Student Advisory Council that he/she represents, and shall provide reports to the Senate concerning those meetings and activities.

4. Each School Senator shall be informed on issues considered by the ASI Senate.

5. Each School Senator shall serve on an ASI committee.

6. Each School Senator shall serve on a University committee.

7. Each School Senator shall serve as the liaison to the Dean of the academic school from which they were elected.

8. Each School Senator shall communicate with the constituents from their respective academic school.

9. Each School Senator shall perform other duties as assigned by the ASI Senate.
