Lambda Theta Nu Sorority, Inc. is strongly dedicated to giving back to the Latino Community. Each chapter participates in at least six Community Service activities each year. Among them are the Latina Youth Leadership Conference and the Lambda Valentine Sales, both of which are done by all chapters on a national level. Individually, each chapter also participates in other community service activities on their own. Upsilon Chapter at Sonoma State University has volunteered for several years at the Graton Day Labor Center as English tutors, as well as participating in walks to raise money for breast cancer and multiple sclerosis research, and recently established the Lambda Mentoring Program for Latina youth.
Tijeras National Community Service Program - Lambda Valentine Sales - As an organization dedicated towards community service, every February we do a fundraiser on a national level for a certain non-profit organization dedicated towards promoting literacy in the Latino community. We choose an organization that is located near the area where we hold our annual National Convention, where we present to the chosen organization all of the money we have raised.
Latina Youth Leadership Conference - Each chapter of Lambda Theta Nu Sorority, Inc. organizes, facilitates and sponsors an annual LATINA YOUTH LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE for junior high school students in their surrounding campus communities with the goals of increasing awareness of higher education attainability, leadership skills development, self-esteem enhancement, positive decision making skills development, respect and cultural pride. Upsilon Chapter at Sonoma State University usually hosts their LYLC in November of each school year.
Lambda Mentoring Program - In our attempt to continue promoting the academic advancement of Latinas, we have recently begun mentoring Latina youth at Roseland Accelerated Middle School in Santa Rosa. We hold one-on-one mentoring sessions with students who are struggling to succeed in school with our main objective being to motivate them to do well in their classes. |
