LEADERSHIP POSITONSCommunity Service AdvisorCommunity Service Advisors (CSAs) are responsible for mentoring, advising, and setting boundaries with students who live in the Residential Community. They are trained to respond to emergencies, make referrals to appropriate campus resources, provide monthly educational and social activities, uphold Residential Community standards and policies, and build FIG Peer AdvisorOne of the signature points of the Freshman Interest Group (FIG) Program is the utilization of Peer Advisors who play a critical role in connecting the classroom to the living room. Each FIG will have one Peer Advisor. This is a year-long commitment. In the fall, the Peer Advisor will be required to fulfill the role of a Peer Mentor in a specialized section of University 102, but also to set-up outside of the class field trips, events with faculty members and study groups. These specialized FIG sections of University 102 will cover the traditional Freshman Seminar themes, but will only be taught by a faculty member and the Peer Advisor. In the Spring, the Peer Advisor will be required to independently teach a weekly one-unit seminar. Peer Advisors must be available in late August and every Friday from 1-3pm for training. Peer Advisors must be available in late August and every Friday from 1-3pm for training.[more...] Sauvignon CommUNITY Co-Op Team LeadersCo-Op Team Leaders provide leadership and support to approximately 70 residents living in the Sauvignon CommUNITY. Each cooperative (co-op) team is designed to foster positive community, investment and pride in the living environment. Each co-op team plans events and activities within a specific focus area. A few examples of teams are the health and wellness co-op, the leadership co-op, and the academic success co-op.Every resident living in Sauvignon will be required to commit 10 hours of participation to his or her assigned co-op team. Co-Op Leaders will organize meetings, assist in planning events, and track participation. Co-Op Leaders will work cooperatively with the Sauvignon CSAs, RLCs and the Sauvignon Community Co-Op Coordinate to ensure residents are positively contributing to the residential community. Leaders are paid a competitive hourly wage. Co-Op Leaders commit to working the entire year (Fall and Spring semester) and must be available in August for training. [more...] Summer Bridge LeaderSummer Bridge Peer Leaders provide support and guidance to students participating in SSU's Summer Bridge Program. This week long program provides students the opportunity to develop and experience the formation of a collaborative learning/social community while developing skills to help their transition from high school to college. It also includes academic advising and course registration for Fall semester. Program participants are mostly first-generation and historically low-income students preparing to attend SSU in the Fall. Work schedule will include night and weekend work during the program. [more...]Summer Orientation LeaderSummer Orientation Leaders (O Leaders) are the first point of contact for new students and their parents. O Leaders are responsible for facilitating a successful transition to the University by providing key services and support in the delivery of SSU's Summer Orientation Program. Responsibilities include: developing community in small groups, peer academic advising, and introducing students to campus resources. A flexible working style is essential for this position. Compensation includes room & board during the program and training dates, and a competitive stipend.[more...] UNIV 102 Peer MentorPeer Mentors work cooperatively with a faculty member or student affairs professional to provide advising, peer contact and transitional support to first year students enrolled in UNIV 102. Job responsibilities include: building a mentoring relationships with students; providing techniques to help students develop the skills to achieve their academic goals; and getting students connected to the SSU campus community. [more...]UNIV 150 Peer MentorThe Freshman Year Experience (FYE) program is a multidisciplinary two-semester lecture/seminar designed for first-time first-year students. One hour of weekly lecture and four hours of weekly seminar, discussion, and advising address a variety of topics that interconnect issues in contemporary society with personal identity and student life. The course builds critical thinking, reading, writing, oral communication skills, information literacy, and student development, while also serving as an introduction to academic disciplines and the General Education Program at Sonoma State University.
