inMotion FAQs
Q: How do I sign up for an inMotion class?
A: All participants much purchase an inMotion pass at the Front Desk of the Recreation Center. Once you have your pass simply bring it with you to class, show it to your instructor, and sign in on the clipboard in the studios for each class you attend.
Q: What are the prices?
A: Prices vary for students/Rec Center members and Rec Center non-members. Participants can purchase a drop, 10-punch, or Total Class Pass. Please see our pass prices for different rates.
Q: Do I need to be a Rec Center member to attend an inMotion class?
A: No, eligible Rec Center members can purchase an inMotion pass even if they do not currently have a membership to the Rec Center. Eligible members include faculty, staff, alumni, and sponsored community members. Please see our pass prices link for non-member pass rates.
Q: What if I lose my pass?
A: Unfortunately lost punch passes cannot be replaced. If you lose a Total Class Pass we may be able to issue you a new one if you keep your receipt showing proof of original purchase. We highly recommend writing your name and phone number on your pass so lost passes can be returned to you if found.
Q: Where are the classes located?
A: inMotion classes take place in the Niagara and Silver Strand Studios, upstairs in the Recreation Center.
Q: When are the classes?
A: Classes are offered during morning, lunchtime, and evening hours and are typically offered for a 10-12 week period in the middle of the semester. Please see the inMotion main page for this semester’s current class schedule and dates.
Q: Do I need experience to take inMotion classes?
A: No experience is necessary for any of the inMotion classes. Instructors will offer modifications to accommodate all fitness and experience levels.
Q: How do I know what to expect in the different classes?
A: Class descriptions are now available! Please see our class descriptions link for a brief introduction to each class format.
Q: What are the instructors’ qualifications?
A: Our instructors are students, faculty, staff, and community members with past experience teaching group fitness or dance. Instructors teaching specialty classes such as spinning and yoga must have a certification specific to their class. Many of our general group fitness instructors also possess a nationally recognized certification for group fitness instruction.
Q: What should I wear to an inMotion class?
A: Any clothing that allows for easy movement and full range of motion is appropriate for inMotion classes. Athletic shoes should be worn for cardio and strength-training classes while dance and yoga classes do not require shoes. Bringing a water bottle and a towel with you to class is also highly recommended.
Q: Why should I participate in the inMotion program?
A: inMotion classes offer participants a fun and different way to exercise. The class schedule offers plenty of variety to allow for cardio, strength, flexibility, and coordination gains. You can exercise with your friends in a social environment under the supervision of a well trained and motivating instructor. Cardio machines can be boring and the weight room can be intimidating – inMotion classes offer a great alternative to the more traditional exercise routine.
