Massage benefits everyone! All ages and all health conditions benefit from the healing touch of a caring therapist. Massage releases endorphins, loosens tight muscles, increases range-of-motion, and FEELS GOOD!

BEGINNING: Take the first few minutes with your therapist to discuss any concerns you have, or let them know what areas you want to focus on (e.g. shoulders, neck, feet, etc.). MIDDLE: During the session, let the therapist know if you need more or less pressure, a drink of water, a Kleenex, a pillow. The therapists are here to serve you and make your session as enjoyable as possible. END: At the end of the session ask questions if you have them. The therapist will explain what they did, why they did it, and how you can help yourself in between sessions. Sometimes people are too sleepy after a massage to talk, but you can always leave a message at the front desk later if you want someone to call you.

A 1-hour massage therapy session consists of 5 minutes of therapist consultation, 50 minutes of hands-on massage, and 5 minutes of dressing. Therefore, a ½ hour massage client receives 25 minutes of hands-on massage, and 1 ½ hour massage client receives 80 minutes of hands-on massage.

When you meet with your therapist and discuss your session plan, it will become apparent how much clothing you should wear. Sports massage and shiatsu tend to be done with loose clothing on. Swedish and deep tissue tend to be done with the client undressed and under the blanket.

As with all therapeutic relationships, there is an initial “getting to know you” period. Being open with your therapist about your shyness will give you some relief and let them know where you’re coming from. Anticipation is the worst part of it and most people get over their hesitancy within a few minutes of getting on the table.

Massage “hurts good”. Skilled massage therapists know how to work through those knots gently and thoroughly. We only go as deep as you let us. If people have had bruises after a massage, that is a sign that the massage went too deep, too fast. If you are susceptible to bruising, please let your therapist know that on your intake form.
