Nutrition Educator

Katelin Mae Petersen
Katelin is passionate about making healthy living easy, sustainable and delicious! She consults with students individually to meet their health and dietary goals, gives group classes and free potlucks to build community, and works with dining services to offer nutritious foods on campus. To support healthy eating at SSU, It’s essential to provide students with nutrition education and of course, access to good food!
Katelin recently co-founded Sprout Wellness Center to enrich the lives of women and their families in the Bay Area through food and healthy living. She also provides cooking demos at TrueNorth Health Center and works with Dr. McDougall’s Health and Medical Center. She holds a Masters in Nutrition from Bastyr University, a leading school in holistic medicine. Her other passions include yoga, meditation, dancing, live music and traveling.

Lauren Aiello
Major: Psychology
Favorite Foods: ANYTHING COCONUT! Lara Bars, sushi, chicken soup, the occasional home-made chocolate chip cookie.
Food Interests: Behavioral effects of food, balanced meals, nutrition education
Career Path: I want to obtain a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in health. Ultimately, I want to run an integrative clinic to support optimal mind-body health. A few of the modalities used will be nutritional therapy, stress management techniques, and psychotherapy.

Julie Alfaro 
Major: Kinesiology 
Favorite Foods: Blueberries, Bananas, Granola, Nuts, Edamame, Avocado, Sweet potatoes and much more! 
Food Interests: Learning more about nutrition; helping others obtain a healthy diet and lifestyle
Career Path: I would love to become a Registered Dietitian.

Rebekah (Becky) Cryderman
Major: Global Studies; Minor: Environmental Studies.
Favorite Foods: Curries of every variety, oatmeal, kale, nuts and so much more!
Food Interests: Learning what nutrients are in foods and how our bodies use them; giving thanks to the earth for its genius design and bounty; and sharing delicious meals with friends.
Career Path: I want to bring sustainable living techniques, nutrition, organic farm practices, education and community resources to people worldwide, especially areas that must work through systematic disadvantages.

Ella MacCloskey 
Major: Women and Gender Studies with a focus in health 
Favorite Food: Sushi
Food interests: Nutrition; making nutrition information more available, and making nutrition education more interesting to people 
Career Path: I hope to become a Registered Dietitian.

Grace Porter
Major: Women and Gender Studies; Minor: Women's Health
Favorite Foods: Eggplant, carrots, apples, spinach, oatmeal, oranges, grapefruits, dark chocolate, Thai food, and sushi.
Food Interests: Spreading nutrition education and encouraging a healthy, whole foods diet; how food provides the body energy for exercise; and the effects of healthy eating on disease prevention and treatment
Career Path: I would like to attend graduate school to become a Registered Dietitian. Through healthy eating education and medical care, I intend to support others in having a healthy lifestyle and achieving their health goals. I also want to promote mind and body wellness.
