The Sonoma State University Dance Team is an audition-based sports club through the Recreation Division on campus. The team performs at half-time during men's and women's basketball games, Midnight Madness, pep rallies, parades, community events, and produces a Spring Showcase in April. Members of the dance team are visible representatives for the entire athletic department and sports club division on campus. Last year the Sapphires attended their first National competition at USA Collegiate Dance Nationals in Anaheim, CA placing 4th in the Open Division (Division II & III).
Team members are required to be full-time SSU students with a minimum 2.5 GPA. We practice three times per week (Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday) with additional conditioning and work out hours required. During practice we work on halftime routines, Nationals choreography, and preparing our annual Spring Showcase. Our season runs from August to mid-April, with auditions occurring in May.
