Frequently Asked Questions

Can students join?

Yes. We encourage students to get involved. The WSC is a small and congenial organization that welcomes students. Students can submit papers, help out with the meetings, compete for scholarships and enjoy meeting students, faculty and practitioners from other places. The form for joining is on the WSC home page.

How can students create a Student Chapter of the WSC?

It is fairly easy to do. You'll have to fill out the form and have a faculty member sponsor the Chapter application. You then e-mail your application to the WSC.

Can people from a region other than the West or a country other than the U.S. join the WSC?

Yes. There are WSC members all around the U.S. and from other countries. The WSC merely has its annual meetings in the West. Fees for membership are the same regardless of country but are lower for students.

How can I get in touch with the Program Chair or a session organizer of the next meeting?

Go to the Call for Papers at the WSC web site at http://www.sonoma.edu/ccjs/wsc/. The Program Chair is listed there, along with the Topic Chairs for the meeting. If you do not have access to a web browser you can e-mail
Andrea Schoepfer for information and she will e-mail it. If you can't obtain it through e-mail you should call or write to the Program Chair.

I found an error on a web page. What should I do?

Please send the erroneous information to Andrea Schoepfer.

Where can I find links to crime related information on the world wide web?

Try the online scholarly journal of the WSC, The Western Criminology Review, or go to The Redwood Highway: Crime, Law and Related Links. You will find extensive links to crime-related information, ranging from statistics about crime that are located on the web, to information about law enforcement, law and the courts, corrections, links to specific topics like terrorism, arson, domestic violence, etc., the profession of criminology, online journals, discussion groups, magazines and newspapers, other megasites of links, and a variety of other information.
