STUDENT INFORMATION

The Western Society of Criminology strongly supports student participation in a number of ways. Students interested in attending the annual WSC meeting are encouraged to take advantage of the following opportunities:

Miki Vohryzek-Bolden (MVB) Student Paper Competition: (papers are due January 4, 2010). Not only will you receive recognition for your work at the awards luncheon, but first and second place papers will receive monetary prizes. For more information click here.

June Morrison Scholarship Fund (application is due October 5, 2009): The WSC offers scholarships to help defray the cost of attendance for students that are attending and presenting papers at the annual meeting. For more information click here.

Student Social: Each year the WSC sponsors (food only) a Student Party to provide student members with an opportunity to meet with each other. See the conference schedule for the time and place.

BOOK EXHIBIT

Each year the WSC organizes a book sale to raise funds for the June Morrison Travel Scholarships that enable students to attend the conference. Books donated by various criminal justice publishers are featured on display for the duration of the meeting. At the close of the meeting these items are sold for a nominal charge. All proceeds go to the scholarship fund. Once students have had a chance, the sale is opened up to the rest of the registered conference attendees. Be sure to end your conference experience with a little gift to yourself that will benefit a worthy cause!
