STUDENT PAPER COMPETITION
SUBMISSION INFORMATION
We solicit your participation in the Western Society of Criminology Student Paper Competition. The following are the procedures and specifications for the annual competition.
ELIGIBILITY
Any student currently enrolled full- or part-time in an academic program at either the undergraduate or graduate level.HOW TO APPLY
All entries must be papers related to criminology. Papers must be 10 to 20 pages, doublespaced, and use a standard format for the organization of papers and citations.Abstracts should be submitted to the appropriate topical chair by October 6, 2008 and a final paper should be emailed to Bryan Kinney by Monday, January 5, 2009.
PROCEDURES FOR JUDGING PAPERS
A panel of scholars in the field will judge all entries. Judges will rate entries on the following criteria: relevancy of the topic to the conference theme; the quality of the writing; and the contribution to the field of criminology. Position papers and commentaries are welcome. The judges' selection of entries for awards will be final.
AWARDS
The first and second place papers will receive monetary prizes of $125 and $75, respectively, and certificates. Students will also be acknowledged at the Awards Ceremony and the best paper will be submitted for review to the Western Criminology Review.
The authors of the papers selected for awards will
be notified in writing by February.
