Marco Calavita received his B.A. in Theater Arts/Film from U.C., Santa Cruz in 1992, and his Ph.D. in Communication from New York University in 2001. He has been teaching in the Communication Studies Department at Sonoma State since the Spring, 2000 Semester.

Since then he has taught COMS 200 (Principles of Mass Communication), COMS 202 (Methods of Media Criticism), COMS 301 (Mass Communication Theory and Research), and COMS 320 (Selected Topics).

He has published work in magazines and journals such as CINEASTE, MASS COMMUNICATION & SOCIETY, and AMERICAN JOURNALISM, and he is working on his book, APPREHENDING POLITICS: NEWS, POLITICAL DEVELOPMENT, AND "GENERATION X", which is now under contract with SUNY Press.
