Change of Major
COMS application period is now open
Our open application period will last from now until October 7th. Please fill out the application and return it to the COMS office as soon as you can. You can email it back to brooke.tester@sonoma.edu or bring it by the COMS office in NH 330. If no one is in the office, leave it in the in-box outside the door.
Change of Majors are not guaranteed graduation within the next academic year. Priority will be given to freshmen and sophomores. Applications should be submitted into the COMS Office (Nichols 330) by October 7, 2013. Late applications will not be accepted.

Our application process is due to budget considerations and the number of current students who wish to become Communication Studies Majors.
The COMS Department will score each applicant based upon the following criteria:
--Student has a cumulative GPA of 3.5 2 points
--Student will be a first-semester Sophomore the semester of application 2 points
--Student will be a first-semester Junior the semester of application 1 point
--Student has taken lower-division core classes (200 & 202) elsewhere 1 point each
--Student has taken COMS elective or skill classes at SSU 1 point
--Student has prior experience in the media area they wish to study 1 point
Students with 4 or more points will be given priority. Students with 3 points will be admitted as space allows.
