The STAR is the only weekly source of information for students, faculty, administration and staff.Fourteen issues are produced each semester; there is no newspaper during summer break.

As an instructionally-related activity, students enroll in...
COMS 368A: Writing & Editing and/or COMS 368B: Newspaper Production.

These classes are held in both classrooms and labs and are designed to give students hands-on experience in writing for a newspaper, editing, selling advertising, laying out pages on the computer, and countless other activities.

The STAR Lab is located in 1053 Salazar Hall, the focal point of all the newspaper's various activities. Here, students turn in weekly story assignments, work with advertising clients, design pages, copy edit articles and much more.

Open to all students enrolled in Sonoma State University, there are no prerequisites for the classes, and non-majors are welcome. All that's needed is a desire to contribute to the campus newspaper, to learn about journalism, and to have a lot of fun doing it.
