Counseling Services
Individual Counseling
We provide confidential short-term individual counseling for people experiencing
personal problems which interfere with their academic progress, career,
or general well being. Counseling sessions last approximately 45-50 minutes.
Couple and Family Counseling
Family and Couples counseling is available. Partners or family members
do not need to be students in order to attend these sessions.
Group Counseling
We provide support and therapy groups. Topics vary, given what students
are interested in. Please check our current group listings under group information for location and time.

If you are interested in joining or suggesting a group, please call our Administrative
Assistant and let her know what type of group you are interested in.
Scheduling an Appointment
You may make an appointment during office hours, Monday through Friday
from 8:30am-4:30pm by coming to Stevenson 1088 and speaking with the receptionist.
You can also call us at 664-2153.
Drop-In Counseling
If you need to see a counselor before a regular appointment is available,
you may come to one of our Drop-In times:
Monday–Thursday, Noon-1pm and 3-4pm
Friday, noon-1pm
You will be seen by the counselor assigned to Drop-In, and he or she
will meet with you and help you determine what services fit for you.
Crisis Consultation & Intervention
We provide crisis assessment and intervention for people experiencing
immediate concerns. During evenings, weekends, holidays, and vacation
breaks when the Counseling Center is not open, the Sonoma County Crisis
Line is available 24-hours-a-day at 707-576-8181, or contact SSU Police Services
at 664-2143.
Consultation & Outreach Workshops
We provide guest lectures in classes, sponsor and co-sponsor workshops
with other Departments and Divisions on campus. During the 2001-2002 academic
year, staff and interns provided 30 class presentations and outreach workshops,
serving approximately 900 students. Topics included: Depression, Helping
students in distress access counseling services, assertiveness, conflict
resolution, procrastination, sexual harassment, diversity and multiculturalism,
and sexuality. Co-sponsors included the Student Health Center, the Women’s
Resource Center, and Residence Halls.
