Degrees in the Department of Economics

The BA Degree Program has three basic objectives: to provide a sound grasp of the tools of economic analysis and measurement; to provide an understanding of institutional development and the interrelation of economic social factors; and to develop the students ability to apply systematic analysis and understanding to decision making in the private and public sector.

An economics major can either have a concentration or follow an advising study plan.

Students may qualify for a minor by completing a 20 unit program.

Students with majors in disciplines such as environmental studies and political science will find that adding an economics major (double majoring) provides them with a breadth of background that is viewed favorably by graduate professional programs and employers.

For the teaching credential, majors must pass the Subject Assessment Examination in the social sciences or complete an approved subject matter preparation program in social science.
