  • Constructivist Learning and Technology
  • Organize a Web Resource Environment for a topic/discipline
  • Assessment (e.g., technology as means to assess; assessing effectiveness of technology in a learning situation; alternative assessment; using technology to measure and exhibit student outcomes). A good starter here is ERIC E*Subscribe through SSU databases.
  • A model of a community learning center, such as a sponsored/not-for-profit "Internet cafe" that provides central resources, despite personal access, SES, etc.
  • Design a school-site technology learning center or "Smart" classroom. Include: physical environment with schematic; hardware and purposes; software and purposes; presentation/teaching equipment; portable devices; peripherals; output devices; support necessary; cost analysis. Note differences according to school level.
Gather resources through the Internet, discipline-specific databases, software, and/or print materials. Re-evaluate topic scope and relevance as needed.
As you progress, develop the following products of your workflow:
  • Outline and map the topic, sub-topics, resources, references, questions, etc. How are you to learn and how will the audience benefit? See Inspiration for organizational tool. We will work in pairs to do some of this on 11/21, as we go through the project in great detail in preparation for the final few weeks.
  • Propose method of preparing multimedia presentation (e.g., via web, PPT). Instructor will offer technical advice and make all possible accommodations.
  • Products and presentations will be graded in regard to:
    • Quality and level of inquiry and sources used (10 pts)
      • Scholarly journals are best, but texts or text chapters are appropriate, as are articles and examples from the Internet
    • Organization of materials, information, and ideas (10 pts)
    • Formatting of materials for archival/display (10 pts)
      • Project is organized and accessible electronically (CD, Web, Zip). Any separate files are linked from one main file. For example, the project could be organized within PPT with hyperlinks to other files, as needed. The same would be true if using a web page for the project. The main project page would have link to the various sections and resources.
    • Peer evaluation archival/display of materials (5 pts)
      • All students will complete an evaluation based on these scoring criteria, with rating scales within each of the categories. Students will also do a peer-evaluation using a presentation effectiveness rubric.
    • Instructor evaluation of presentation to class (15 pts)
      • Instructor will use the same rubric for the above sections, as well as

TOTAL VALUE OF PROJECT: 50 POINTS
