Outline of Tasks for Evaluating the School of Education Website Usability and Content

Visit the School of Education web site with the mindset of a prospective student in the "multiple subjects credential program." Can you find information as to: program application materials; program application deadlines; SSU application materials; SSU admissions deadlines; prerequisites for this particular program; CA tests to be completed; information on the actual course of study; information regarding the observation and student-teaching requirements; who to contact with advising questions; who to contact with application/logistical questions; what is the "blended program" option; a map leading to the SOE office.

NOW, perform the same steps as a prospective single-subject credential student. How do you progress from Phase 1 to Phase 2 of student-teaching. What are the portfolio requirements, if any? Is there a digital portfolio requirement for any/all programs? If so, what are the requirements and method of building, posting, delivering? What are the TPEs?

Now, perform the same steps as a prospective applicant to the MA in Education, with a concentration in Curriculum, Teaching, and Learning. What are your options within CT&L according to information found at the website? Who would you contact? How would you apply? What are the prerequisites? Is there a MA in Education Handbook online? Can you find faculty members listed by name and expertise, so you can begin thinking about forming your graduate studies committee? Who is the advisor for your concentration? Other information you may need? Are there teaching-asssistantships available? Graduate assistantships? Research assistantships?

Additional items:
What is the conceptual framework of the SOE?
What is NCATE?
Under advising, who would you talk to in regard to a secondary science teaching credential? PE?
Are there links that take you outside of the SOE website instead of opening a new window?
As a prospective JC xfer student, can you find information to facilitate transfer of your work to SSU via the SOE web page?
Suppose you live in Lake County. Can you find information regarding any satellite programs designed to serve students outside the immediate service area (e.g., Lake Cty, Solano Cty, Mendocino Cty)?
Can you find information related to technology infusion efforts by the SOE? Technology-mediated classrooms? Distance learning? Technology grants or projects? Technology Support Center?
Does each page have a title that appears at the top of the browser window?
